86: Sigur Ros, “Hoppipolla” (no.24, 2005)

The acclaimed Icelanders are one of those bands you’re surprised haven’t charted more - and, given that their status is currently set to “hiatus”, they may or may not again. Still, even “Hoppipolla”’s overuse on adverts for HiDef TV channels and every Dave Attenborough venture under the sun can’t strip the track of its elemental magic, the mischief suggested by the title - which, rather wonderfully, translates as “the joy of jumping in puddles” - well served by a video that features pensioners running wild. The inevitable dance reworking - Chicane’s “Poppiholla” - was affectionate enough, but can safely be ignored.
